If you think that starving yourself is going to help you with your weight problem you’re wrong. Not only is is very unhealthy for you it is also not going to work.

Why will this not work? When you stop giving your body the calories that it needs each day your body will switch to starvation mode. When this happens, your body will start storing fat and make it impossible to lose the weight your hoping for. We agree that the last thing you want is for your body to store fat. Our next big no-no for diets are the fad diets that are so silly and a little common sense would tell you they’re never going to work. These diets pray on those of us who are wanting to lose weight really fast and want it to be easy.

Some of these diets would be the Grapefruit Diet, The Lemonade Diet, The Cabbage Soup Diet, or the Seven-Day All-You-Can-Eat Diet (I don’t know about you but I would love to eat all I can eat for a week and still lose weight but how realistic does that sound).

So what is my point here about the fad diets. Use common sense. If it sounds too good to be true… Run. It’s unfortunate that people pray on the pains of others. These diets hope to hit your weak spots with your desires to lose weight in order to sell you a diet plan that you could never stick to and be healthy.

The best advice I could give you here is that if the diet doesn’t sound like something healthy for you and that you could live with from now on, then it is unhealthy and dangerous for you to even start. Your body has many necessary nutrients that it needs each day to fight off illness and to be healthy. Most fad diets don’t provide that.

You may have also heard that you can never stray from your diet. If you do, you’ll need to exercise for hours to make up for it. This isn’t true. It’s okay to have that favorite dessert once in awhile. If you feel you need to, you can make up for that dessert by adjusting something else on your menu for that day. There’s really no need to exercise for hours just to compensate for one little treat.

You may have that little devil sitting on your shoulder, whispering in your ear that you have messed up, so you may as well give up…..do not listen. This is where you could stray from your diet plan, by thinking that you are already defeated. Instead of giving up, forgive yourself and move on. That treat you ate didn’t end the diet for you. Another lie you may hear is the one that says you can’t eat before you go to bed, because you’ll get fat in your sleep. This one isn’t true because a diet only means that you’re eating healthy and watching your calorie intake for the day.

Having a light snack before bed isn’t going to make a big difference unless it’s a 7-course meal or a churn of homemade ice cream that you don’t share with anyone! This is not something that you should make a habit of, but doing it occasionally it is not going to be the end of the world or your diet.

How about the one that says you can’t eat anything between meals? It’s better that you do eat snacks. Eat smaller meals throughout the day to keep your hunger satisfied. By eliminating snacks between meals, you’re only going to make yourself hungrier at meal times, which cause you to eat a lot more than you really need just to satisfy your hunger.

Dairy contains nutrients your body needs, so you should have some dairy, as a matter of fact, some studies suggest those who do include dairy have better weight loss success. I however am not convinced on this one. We shall find out that truth. Just make sure you limit your amounts and go for the low-fat versions.
